The feature showcased a StreetDoctors training session in Newcastle hosted by the North East Youth Alliance. Our healthcare volunteers were filmed training and empowering young people with life-saving skills, aiming to break the cycle of violence.
Commenting on the feature, Lucie Russell, CEO of StreetDoctors, said:’ This highly important feature from Channel 4 News included a Freedom of Information Request they had researched, seeking insights into why young perpetrators commit violence These insights are absolutely key, because far too often victims and perpetrators are interchangeable, and many also come from a trajectory of victimhood themselves. To be truly effective in reducing violence affecting young people we have to go beyond enforcement to comprehensive prevention and early intervention strategies to create systems change. These approaches may not win votes but if we want to prevent further heartbreaking tragedies of more young lives lost we have to act now’
