Double win at 2024 Children & Young People Now Awards

Street Doctors are the big winners at annual celebration of the children’s services sector.

National youth charity, StreetDoctors, had lots to celebrate after becoming the big winners at the 2024 Children & Young People Now Awards, taking home two awards of the evening.

StreetDoctors’ first award was the Youth Volunteering and Social Action Award, where StreetDocotors was chosen for its unique Young Healthcare Volunteer scheme.

The scheme trains over 10,000 young people affected by violence each year; both in the physical and psychological consequences of street violence.

The training incorporates emergency first-aid and is delivered by StreetDoctors movement of young healthcare volunteers (nurses, paramedics and doctors) who work in partnership with a wide variety of services where young people may be active: criminal justice services, schools, pupil referral units, youth, sports and community groups.

StreetDoctors also triumphed in the Partnership Working Award category for its part in the North West Lifesavers initiative.

Alongside the Merseyside Violence Reduction Partnership, Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit and the North West Ambulance Service, StreetDoctors worked with schools, youth clubs and youth justice teams to run in-person training with groups of young people.

CEO of StreetDoctors, Martin Tilbury said: “We are delighted and honoured to receive these awards and it’s credit to our staff, volunteers and partners for all their hard work over the past two years. StreetDoctors are on an exciting journey of growth, which is enabling us to support more young people and create greater impact for the communities we are working with. Being award winners is a fantastic achievement and recognition of our passion and drive to continuously develop as a charity”.

The 24 winners and six highly commended entries were chosen from a shortlist of 116 finalists. These were assessed by a panel of practitioners and young people who held judging sessions earlier in the year, reading more than 500 awards entries.

The awards, now in their 19th year, took place on Thursday 28th November at Novotel London West in Hammersmith, and welcomed over 500 guests. They set to champion the vital work of services supporting children, young people and families across the UK, and showcase innovation and outstanding practice across the children’s services sector.
