As a Youth Worker at Street Doctor, I am responsible for delivering and supporting volunteers through a variety of training courses. Collaborating with my colleagues, I visit different organisations, schools, and institutions to conduct interactive sessions that equip young people with essential first aid skills.
Why StreetDoctors?
Street Doctors is an organisation that is addressing a critical need. They understand that with the increasing prevalence of violence, it is important to ensure that our community and young people are skilled to assist and support anyone in need on the streets. Violence can occur anywhere, and the more people we train, the better our chances of excelling as a society. The recruitment of young people to deliver sessions to their peers, makes Street Doctors stand out to me. It provides a relatable and effective training session to occur which then fosters a sense of community when is as young people have taught each other a new skill!
Background
In 2021, I began my work as a youth consultant. Throughout my experience with various organisations such as London’s Violence Reduction Unit, Barnardo’s, MissingPeople, and Catch22, I understood the crucial role of collaboration between these organisations and young people, particularly given their focus on programmes and policies that directly impact us. This inspired me to join Street Doctors, where I could participate in grassroots efforts to prevent violence and empower young people.
Outside of StreetDoctors
I love calisthenics. Growing up, my dad always encouraged me to use my body weight to build strength. Over time, I lost this ability, but I’ve recently started again. Learning new skills makes me feel so good and refreshed, especially as a university student who spends a lot of time sitting.
