I first heard about StreetDoctors while I was studying medicine at the University of Leeds. I wondered why such unique and potentially life-saving lessons were not being delivered in his city, so I set up the branch there in 2013 with a group of my peers.

Dr Luke Swithenbank Trustee

Luke first came across StreetDoctors while studying medicine at the University of Leeds and he set up the Leeds team in 2013 with a group of his peers.

Luke went on to lead the Leeds team for two years, during which time he also took on the national role of Expansion Officer, helping to establish new teams in Newcastle, Bristol, Birmingham, and Warwick.

After graduating, he moved to Birmingham, where working in the city’s emergency departments exposed him first-hand to the devastating impact of knife violence, strengthening his resolve to help tackle it.

Luke now serves as a medical officer in the RAF and joined the board of trustees in summer 2018, aiming to ensure the charity remains grounded in its roots: its dedicated volunteers and the young people it supports.
