Lucie Russell

I have overall responsibility for the strategic direction of StreetDoctors, its services, its impact, its partnerships and most importantly its role in both preventing and reducing violence affecting young people.
Why StreetDoctors?
I am totally committed to StreetDoctors skills based focus, starting with the premise of what is right with young people affected by violence rather than what is wrong with them. My mission is to support the organisation to increase its reach and become even more effective.
Background
I am passionate about playing my part in reducing inequality. I have been a youth worker, social worker and was one of the founders of the Big Issue, where I also set up their charity The Big Issue Foundation. I have led national campaigns on prison reform at the Prison Reform Trust, young people’s mental health at YoungMinds – where I was also a Director of the organisation – and poverty at the Barrow Cadbury Trust leading their Fair By Design campaign. My lifelong commitment to social justice is to ensure that those with real life experiences are front and centre in the creation of solutions.
Outside of StreetDoctors
I am a mother, an earth protector, and a lover of running around as many places of nature as possible!
