I have been involved with StreetDoctors North London since its humble beginnings in 2013. Since then, we have taught over one hundred young people in pupil referral units, youth offending teams, youth clubs and Feltham prison; our efforts were recently recognised when we won the UCL Volunteering Society of the Year 2015-16. Volunteering with StreetDoctors is so rewarding and gives a real sense of making a difference to a disillusioned and hard-to-reach demographic. There’s nothing quite like hearing a young person talk about their experiences of gang crime, and then being able to equip them with the skills to potentially help a friend or stranger in the future. I hope to be involved in StreetDoctors for many years to come.
